Vishu Malayalam New Year

Vishu (Bisu) is Malayalam  New Year observed in Kerala and by all Malayalis. It falls on the first day of the Malayalam month of ‘medam.’ In 2010, it falls on April 15th. The celebration  is known as  Vishukani, Vishukaineetam and Vishubhalam. ‘Vishu Kani’ is the first auspicious thing that people see on the day and this takes place during the Brahma Muhurta. The eldest member in the family gives ‘Vishukaineetam’ to others .‘Vishubhalam’ or the predictions for the next year is also read on the day.
On this day, people read the Ramayana and go to the temples, the Hindu places of worship.
