Thaipusam Malaysia Batu Caves

Thai Poosam (Thaipooyam, Thaipoosam, Thaipusam)in Malaysia Batu caves is celebrated as a  prayer day to the Vel and Muruga for destruction of all enemies, diseases and debts. It falls on 30th January 2010 this year on full moon day of Tamil month Thai. On this day when Lord Muruga acquired  ‘Lance’ or ‘Vel,’ (Divine Spear Weapon) from Mother Goddess Parvathi to assist in His battle with the demon Surapadma. Pushya is in the sign Cancer owned by the Moon, the Mother. The deity associated with Pushya is Brihaspati, the ‘Guru’/ Teacher. Lord Muruga, and Jupiter (“associated with Pushya”), have been identified in the Siva Nadis to be the most prominent deities for 2010. Image of Lord Muruga placed on  a silver chariot is pull along by two bulls in Kulalampur, Malaysia to the Batu Caves. The image is then carried by devotees  up 272 steps to the temple cave. Batu Caves is located in Gombak district. Only 15 km north of Kuala Lumpur, Batu caves consist of three main caves and a number of smaller ones. During Thaipusam, Batu Caves hosts the largest gathering of  devotees in Malaysia.
