Mangal Dosha
Mangal Dosha (Kuja dosha, Angaraka dosha, Chevvaai dosham) refers to presence of Mars in the first, second, fourth, seventh, eighth or twelfth house. The horoscope is then known as Manglik (Mangalik). It ruins the harmony in the marriage. Why it is so? When Mars (Mangal) is present in the first, fourth or twelfth house it aspects the seventh house, the house of marriage. The second house represents family life and the eighth house represents longevity of marriage. Therefore Mars’s presence in these houses produces bad results. Of these six houses, Mars does not produce very bad results when present in the second, fourth or twelfth house. However, when Mars is present in the first, seventh or eighth house, it has the potential to cause major disruption in marital life. Particularly the eighth house Mars is considered extremely inauspicious for the marriage partner. The malefic effect of Mars becomes even more damaging under the following situations:
- When the position of Mars indicates Mangal-Dosha not only from the ascendant but also from Moon or Venus.
- When Mars is in a Fire sign like Aries, Leo or Sagittarius.
- When Mars is aspected by or conjunct with Saturn.
Since Mars (Mangala grah) produces Mangala Dosha in six houses, it is apparent that a large number of people may be Manglik. Of these, some will be severely Mangleek. However, there are many beneficial planetary combinations, which can completely nullify the negative effect of Mangala Dosh. In addition, Vedic astrology recommends the marriage of a Mangalik girl with only a Manglik boy to reduce the ill effects of Mangal dosh on the soul mates.
