Liver Disease and Disorder
Liver is an important organ situated in the right hypochondrium and epigastrium of the abdomen. The liver performs many important functions of the body like the metabolism of carbohydrates, proteins, fats and vitamins along with the synthesis of bile, detoxification and inactivation of drugs and hormones. Astrologically, liver is governed by the planet Jupiter.
Liver disorders occur in various ways; pre-hepatic, hepatic and post-hepatic depending upon the affliction to Jupiter at various houses, signs and by various planets in the horoscope. The liver, the gall bladder and the pancreas are ruled by the 5th house and Jupiter. Afflictions to the 5th house will cause liver troubles in one way or the other. However, Jupiter is not the only deciding factor in liver trouble. The exact nature of the liver problem should be carefully judged by the afflictions to the 5th house and Jupiter anywhere in the horoscope along with Mars, Saturn and the Sun.
If only Jupiter is afflicted in the horoscope the disease of the liver will be due to reasons inside the liver only (Hepatic). This may be due to
(1) Infections — Hepatitis ( viral, bacterial and due to drug toxins);
(2) chronic diffuse liver damage as in various cirrhosis ( portal, nutritional, alcoholic, biliary);
(3) infiltration (glycogen, fats, amyloid, lymphoma, leukemia etc.);
(4) space occupying lesion of the liver (cyst, abscess, Hepatoma etc.);
(5) miscellaneous functional disorders with jaundice.
A weak Ascendant (Lagna) or a badly aspected Lagna with affliction to Jupiter causes liver disease in the form of cirrhosis, leading to generalized body weakness. If the 5th house is also afflicted, the liver damage will be more severe in the form of different hepatitis. If Jupiter and Saturn are in association anywhere in the horoscope there will be improper functioning of the liver throughout life. But it case Jupiter and Saturn are associated in the 5th house, there will be slow growing severe chronic liver disease leading to hepatic coma and death of the person.
