Electional Astrology
Electional Astrology relates to selection of an auspicious time or Muhurta for any undertaking in Vedic Astrology. We discussed how a judicious selection of an auspicious moment ( Muhurtha ) using Electional Astrology can give advantage over competitors or the opposite can happen if Muhurtha is not selected with due consideration. By using electional astrology for choosing a proper muhurta for a new venture, be it new construction, undertaking of business trip, important surgery, buying home, starting school or even planning child birth, can shower success. Besides being traditional in Hindu astrology, electional astrology is also being increasingly used in Western astrology.
Here is an example of an auspicious moment that all most know. It is called Abhijit Muhurta. It has power to destroy numerous malevolent influences and is best for success in undertaking any action. Abhijit Muhurt starts from 24 minutes before the Local Noon Time (LNT) and remains till 24 minutes thereafter (total duration 48 minutes) for 12-hour duration of daytime. For variable length of daytime its duration should be calculated proportional to daytime (sunrise to sunset) length.
Other auspicious moments (Muhurta) include Brahma Muhurt, Vijay Dashmi, Ravi Yoga, Sade-Teen Muhurt, Sarva-Karya-Arambha Muhurt, Gow-Dhuli, and Vijay Muhurt & Amrit Ghatis.
